Yet another example of increasing Muslim fundamentalism in Sri Lanka !

As our fellow blogger on Kottu Hot And Fast News reports the calendar for 2012 by Glitz, a very successful chain of clothing stores owned by a Muslim is in Arabic, Tamil and English ignoring the Sinhala language which is the language of the largest section of the customers of this business industry.

This purposeful omission of Sinhala language and giving prominence to Arabic langue which is almost non-useable language in Sri Lanka for day today communication by its citizens is a clear indication of Muslim fundamentalism in Sri Lanka. This is also a clear indication how the wealthy sections of the Muslim community, primarily the business community sow the seed of communalism among its members. This is just one example of emerging Muslim fundamentalism in Sri Lanka which has spread in many forms as I elaborated in my previous posts.

Sarath Fonseka Vs Karuna !

One of the often made allegations against the present government of its critics is that how the former army commander Sarath Foneska who is considered to be a true war hero is treated with many years of prison terms while at the same time how Karuna or Vinyagamoorty Muralitharan, the former Eastern Commander of LTTE who is accused of carrying out several civilian massacres and fought against the armed forces for many years is treated with a deputy minister position of the present government being offered with all the privileges. A fair and neutral assessment is needed to judge how valid this allegation against the government is.  In order to do a balanced assessment we shouldn't confine not only to the contribution made by the each individual for the final war against terrorism but also to the contribution they made after the war for the wellbeing of the country.

It is an undisputable fact the defection of Karuana who was an asset to Prabhakran to fight against Sri Lanka's armed forces was a monumental loss to LTTE's war machine in terms of losing a successful leader, falling into the hands of the enemy his knowledge about in and out about the organization and the area he was controlling and eventually losing sizable number of combatants along with a large stock of arms.  The contribution made by Karuna, a diehard and deadly leader of the most ruthless terrorist organization by renouncing the violence and joining the democratic process of the country which was rejected by his former organization as Tamil people's oppressor is also monumental. Even a diehard LTTE supporter must have taken aback by his move thinking how outside world would think about the futility and the relevancy of the fight that they were waging at an enormous cost to their people. This must have certainly prompted to think many an outside people who matter to Sri Lankan affaires that the desire that some of the LTTE fighters and Tamil people were yearning for to live under a democratic system of governance. So the Karuna's defection and then his joining to Sri Lanka's democratic process have indeed been a turning point in Sri Lanka's successful war against terrorism. Karuna is indeed responsible for many crimes. So are the many Ex-LTTE combatants released and being rehabilitated. Who knows whether some of those former LTTE carders will become ministers of the country in the future?

Former army commander Sartha Fonseka indeed took the reins of the army at a very critical juncture when Sri Lankan armed forces finally decided to push the military option to win the peace when LTTE rejected other 'peaceful solutions'. While his contribution as the army commander in the successful war against terrorism can never be underestimated the contributions made by many other individuals may perhaps many times bigger than what Fonseka did. First and foremost, it is the correct political leadership given by the president Rajapaksha that made the war possible. His all predecessors succumbed to the so called international pressure and had almost given half of the country to a terrorist organization in a platter for more than two decades. The wars his predecessors waged were half –hearted that ultimately resulted in losing many lives and property. It was his rock solid political leadership and the determination that gave demoralized armed forces a fresh breathing air which resulted in swelling in the numbers for recruitment to form almost 08 divisions in the army in less than one year time. The strategic leadership and guidance given by the Defense Secretary while being the connecting chord between the armed forces and the president have indeed been legendry. Army would have never even imagined in winning a war had the contribution from the Navy, Air Force and the Police not been at the country's disposal. It was the Navy with extremely limited resources that caused a massive hemorrhage to the LTTE: destroying the LTTE's massive well-oiled arms supply machine. It was indeed one of the turning points of the war against terrorism. No need of elaborating the mammoth and legendry role played by the air force with again extremely less resources. And again the both forces were headed by battle hardened highly successful officers. So it was a galaxy of factors that led to the war victory. Sarath Fonseka was not alone 'The Factor' as many claim for the victory. So the conditions were such that absence of Sarath Fonseka as the army commander would have not made a big difference.

Now it is pertinent to assess the role played by SF after the war with regard to country's wellbeing. How have some of his actions contributed to the country's future?  SF's 'White Flag' charge was indeed life giving oxygen to the LTTE rump which had been literally down with the LTTE's decimation. The international witch hunt for alleged 'war crimes' sat in motion with this false 'White Flag' charge. The massive propaganda machine of the LTTE with its huge resources at its disposal was fully activated to rally against Sri Lanka in several fronts: from buying the anti-Sri Lankan politicians from the West and the USA to produce fabricated films by media organizations who were waiting to settle some scores with the Sri Lankan government. All sundry of anti Sri Lankan characters led by INGO bosses whose terms in the country were not extended due to their shady deals with the LTTE have been forefront in their campaign against Sri Lanka. The 'White Flag' charge was the stepping stone for the 'Darusman Report'. The massive effort being made to haul up Sri Lankan leaders and the armed forces members in the international war crime tribunals is at the full swing.  The negative image that Sri Lankan has to bear due to SF's antics is massive and will continue to go on for many years to come.

So the damage caused by the SF to his motherland after the war has undone in many folds what he has done for contributing to winning the war.  Many machinations by anti-Sri Lankan forces are well underway to make use SF to destabilize the country. Karuna who joined the democratic process of the country continue to help his community in particular and the country in general for their wellbeing.

Are Indian and Chinese militaries in a tussle to become closer to Sri Lankan military?

Close on the heels of Sri Lanka's army commander's visit to the Indian Military Academy's(IMA) passing out parade General Ma Xiaotian, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) visited Sri Lanka.  This unmistakably indicates that there has been keen interest on the part of two countries to forge close military ties with Sri Lanka. This keen interest can rather be described as a sort of a tussle by the two powers to win over Sri Lanka. This again unmistakably the tussle between the two powers to dominate the Indian Ocean region.

Military ties between China and Sri Lanka were largely confined to the supply of arms, naval crafts and aircrafts by the former during the last four to five decades. The training stints given to Sri Lankan military personnel in the Chinese military academies were not as large as Indian and Pakistani military academies have been offering to SL. However, with the beginning of president Rajapaksha's tenure there has been a marked increase of training stints offered to SL armed forces personnel in the Chinese military academies. So PLA's General's visit obviously indicates that there will be a further increased opportunities to SL military personnel to train in PLA's academies.

Though Military ties between India and Sri Lanka has been historically close the disastrous policies adopted by the Indian governments towards Sri Lanka have made Indian military less friendly to Sri Lankans. They include Indian military's involvement in training LTTE carders in India, aggression by Indian air force and navy violating Sri Lanka's air space and its seas respectively to force JR Jayawardana government to stop successful Vadamarachchi military campaign which saved Prabhakaran to wage the terrorism for further 20 years, sending Indian army (IPKF) to force upon us the so called  'Political Solution' and finally refusal to sell necessary weaponry to the marooned 40,000 troops in the besieged Jaffana peninsula and instead willing to provide vessels to a near impossible evacuation mission.

On the other hand Chinese government including PLA has been one of the few countries which were steadfastly behind Sri Lanka's successful military campaign against terrorism. Apart from being the biggest arms supplier to Sri Lanka China had been regularly supplying arms without any hindrance though many countries including India refused to do so.

It seems Sri Lankan armed forces and PLA have opened a new chapter in their relationship with the two countries' military ties further strengthened. However, we are yet to see the reaction by the Indian government to this strengthened military ties between China and SL. If India indeed does react it may be overt or covert or may be a combination of both. India's reaction to perceived SL's closeness to the US ie training LTTE cadres in India was of course covert though it became overt later.

‘In peace prepare for war, in war prepare for peace’-Sun Tzu

In his legendry book 'The art of war', written two and half thousand years ago Sun Tzu said above words.  It seems there is no better time than the time that we are passing now matches the relevancy of his wisdom to present day Sri Lanka. The consistency with which we followed and adopted to win the peace defeating terrorism should be as same as during the present day peace time too in the event of a future instability in the country that might be ignited by the vested interested many a forces at play here and abroad.  There should be no stone unturned in the event of Sri Lanka facing such an eventuality.

Shamindra Ferdinando of 'The Island' in an article titled 'Focus on post-war challenges SLN 61st anniversary today'  on 08th of December underscores this necessary preparedness on the part of Sri Lankan armed forces in general and the SL Navy in particular .

The utter foolish policies adopted by the previous regimes by not equipping the navy, the first line of defense of the country,  as per the requirements to face the challenges posed by the LTTE during last two decades cost Sri Lankan dearly giving LTTE terrorists a field day.  The poorly equipped navy plus denying the resources to it by turning a blind eye of its requirements specially during Ranil Wickramasinha's tenure not only prolonged the war but also dragged the country's development many decades behind with monumental damages to the lives and the properties. The following quote from the article that quotes President Chandrika Kumaratunga highlights the plight with which we were faced with.

Several years ago the Jane's Defence quoted former President Chandrika Kumaratunga as having said "If we had upgraded our navy earlier, the problem of Tamil separatist terrorism would not have taken the present form."

Apart from the threats posed to the country's defense by the forces locally and abroad hell bent to destabilize the peaceful environment enjoyed by its citizens, our forces should be prepared to face our growing economic interests too as highlighted in his article by Shamindra Ferdinando as follows.

'The gradual expansion of operations by pirates operating off Somalia, oil and gas exploration in the sea bed of Mannar, people smuggling and poaching remain formidable challenges. The navy will have to adopt a result oriented strategy to tackle these issues.'

Some of the strategies recommended by Sun Tzu in his legendry book have been applied by our strategists too in the war against terrorism though it is not known whether they have ever read it. So the need of the hour is the preparedness for any eventuality with necessary resources being amply provided to our forces as Sun Tzu's wisdom has never proved wrong!

Claims of an existence of Tamil Buddhists in North and East of Sri Lanka: the latest fabrication by Eelamist having miserably failed the ‘Tamil Homeland’ project.

So the Eelmists are up with a new fabrication again. The irrefutable evidences of existence of Sinhalese Buddhist civilization in the north and east of Sri Lanka before the arrival of Tamils to those areas in terms of hard evidences such as archeological sites well corroborated by the references in the chronicles as well as Tamilinzed original Sinhalese names were thorn in the flesh of Eelmists who created a fabricated history for Tamils in North and East of Sri Lanka. The fact that the vast majority of Tamils living in NE of Sri Lanka was brought down from India by the colonists as agricultural labourers mainly to cultivate Tobacco was swept under the carpet to further the fabricated history. Poisoned by this fabricated history, manufactured by power hungry vastly privileged Vellalai Tamils in Jaffna, underprivileged Tamils perished in large numbers and had to undergo untold hardships in the 30 years of war.

It seems that the sheer volume and the clarity of the evidences are such that Elemists are now forced to admit that there are at least evidences of a Buddhist civilization in the North and East. But they find extremely difficult to swallow the pie that It was a Sinhalese civilization. As long as the Tamil homeland theory was being projected with the power of arms it was purely Tamil Hindu Culture which exited for ' thousand years' and there was not an iota of mentioning of an existence of "Buddhist" civilization despite the fact that those archeological sites were strewn around the length and breadth of North and East of the country. The most ridicules part of this latest theory on the part of Eelamists has been that they have blissfully forgotten the fact that all the inscriptions are written in Brahami letters and Prakrutha language, the early form of Sinhalese. Existence of almost all the archeological sites are well collaborated in the chronicles such as Mahavamsa, Deepawamsa and Chulavamsa etc. Almost all the place names of North and East carried original Sinhalese names which have later been Tamilinazed. My numerous previous articles throw ample light
on these irrefutable evidences.

PS: In fact an indication of the manufacturing of this new theory was in the offing was evidenced a few weeks ago in an article by DBS Jeyaraj, a staunch Eelam propagandist.

Peace Mudalalis now admit that LTTE violated CFA after their mentor Norway released its report on failed ‘peace’ effort in Sri Lanka.

One of the foremost Peace Mudalalis in Sri Lanka Jehan Perera now accepts that the LTTE violated Norwegian brokered failed CFA. This admission comes after Norway, Sri Lanka's Peace Mudalais' main benefactor and mentor released its report on failed 'peace' effort in Sri Lanka. So these hypocritical Dollar Kakka's waited well after two years after the conclusion of war to utter this until their mentor releases a report. When the LTTE was having a field day violating CFA these vultures did not utter a single word while it was fun for them to trumpet from roof tops with exaggerated false claims of Sri Lankan security forces violating the CFA.

Jehan Perera goes on to say

'During the entirety of the ceasefire period the LTTE kept on assassinating its opponents and violating human rights. This included killing Tamil informants, government intelligence personnel and also Tamil political leaders who belonged to other political parties. There were also the deliberate provocations where the LTTE instigated Tamil civilians to march into army camps to demonstrate against the military's presence. They also engaged in large scale forcible child recruitment. The evaluation report notes that these violations of the ceasefire, and the inability to respond to them in a credible manner, severely undermined the legitimacy of the peace process and the role of Norway in it. During much of the peace process there was an impression that the Norwegian facilitators were soft on the LTTE and more sympathetic to their concerns than to those of the Sri Lankan government.'

'They used the period of ceasefire, and the political space given to them, to build the basic features of a state of their own. They established a comprehensive bureaucracy, put up large buildings that they were proud of, and converted their guerilla force into a conventional army. They grew too attached to what they had created.'

The general public and the government should be mindful to what this Peace Vultures is up to now with this change of tone.

Thank you Lefroy!

Lefroy! Thank you for your efforts to take time to read my blog. It is indeed a privilege to have my blog been read by "The Internet God". On top of all you had taken your precious time to read through Rebel of Kandy's introduction.

I would like to suggest you to use a strong toilet bowl cleaner next time around as a mouth wash! At the same time I consider it's worthwhile to re-post your post on my blog.

Regards,

Rebel of Kandy

Our resident eunuch Rebel of Kandy has been growing even scarier

 14/11/2011

This pathetic human being has been so seriously butt-fucked by monkeys in Kandy that even reading the previews of his blog entries in Kottu is a total mindfuck. Sinhala-Buddhists castrated by Muslims or Tamils, Sinhala-Buddhists burnt alive by Muslims and Tamils, Sinhala-Buddhists gang raped by Muslim mobs; this shit is hardcore man.

For public safety, this mad guy should be found and put inside a nuthouse. He's crazy and potentially dangerous, and when he farts, he also cyber-farts. Just can't stand the smell.

Maybe things would've been a little different if he ever got some action. But who wants to sleep with a farting eunuch? So he farted through his life, imagined being a rebel, and farted some more.

Rebel? What is this? Rebelling against the colour of monkey poop in Kandy? According to his own definition, to rebel is,

1. To fight against the government or to refuse to obey rules

2. To react against a feeling, action or plan

This eunuch isn't fighting against the government. He's licking its balls and taking its penis up his ass without any lubrication. When his ass isn't blocked by a penis, he farts on the opposition and pees on all Muslims and Tamils and other minorities. This guy isn't a rebel. If this guy calls himself a rebel because he reacts to a feeling, action or plan, American rednecks should call themselves rebels too. I mean they go like "those fucking immigrants", don't they?

He says that a rebel "is opposed to the political system in his country and tries to change it using force". Didn't I tell you this guy's dangerous. He's talking about genocide against the thambiyas who castrate pure Sinhala-Buddhists men with penises little longer than those of monkeys. He says a rebel is "a person who shows his disagreement with the ideas of people in authority." Does his tiny little monkey fucked noggin thinks that those poor Tamils and Muslims, who themselves have been butt fucked by Sinhalese people and their army, are in authority?

I tell you what Rebel of Kandy, keep on doing what you do: licking donkey balls and sucking the government's dick. The revolution will cum in a second.

One of the biggest persecutors of Buddhists sheds crocodile tears for Tibet Buddhists to avenge China’s support for Sri Lanka to rid itself from terrorism

LTTE's expression of its solidarity towards the Tibetan Buddhists who are in protest against Chinese establishment can best be described as a yet big ploy by the Eelmists to deceive world community to further its terrorism. During the 30 years of terrorism by the Eelamist in Sri Lanka the persecution and mayhem perpetrated by them against Buddhists may perhaps be second only to the persecution carried out against Buddhists by Muslim invaders in Indian sub continent and East Asian countries and the persecution carried out by the Western colonists in their colonies which were predominantly Buddhists.

The persecutions carried out by the Eelamist in Sri Lanka against Buddhists include the massacring of Buddhist monks in numerous occasions  (eg: killing of 33 Buddhist monks  as young as 10 years in Aranthalawa in 1987) , numerous attacks carried out against Buddhist worshipers in all parts of the country (eg: killing of 146 Buddhist worshipers in Anuradhpura at Sri Maha Bodhi in 1985), the bombing of Dalanda Maligawa, the most sacred place of worship of Buddhists, killings of thousands of Buddhists in several parts of the country, ethnic cleansing of Buddhists from their traditional villages that they lived for thousands of years and the destruction of ancient Buddhists temples and archeological sites in order to erase the sings of Sinhalese Buddhist civilization from the Northern and Eastern parts of the country to claim the bogus "Tamil Homeland". These are just a few examples of attacks carried out against Buddhists.

So one can understand the reason behind the sudden compassion felt by Eelamist for Tibetan Buddhists. At a time Tibetans are protesting against Chinese Establishment Eelmists are shedding crocodile tears for Tibetan Buddhists as China's support to Sri Lanka to rid itself from the Eelam terrorism has always been thorn in the flesh of Eelamists. Unlike the hypocritical Western countries which have been strong supporters of Eelam terrorism China has thrown its weight behind Sri Lanka to free itself from terrorism.

So the LTTE terrorists who are among the biggest persecutors of Buddhists in the world has no moral right whatsoever to talk on behalf of Buddhists irrespective of which part of the world they come from be they from Tibet or any other part of the world.  As I said earlier it is just a big ploy on the part of Eelam terrorists to deceive world community to further their terrorism.

Yet another brutal attack against Sinhalese Buddhists by Muslim Fundamentalists!

As our fellow blogger Peramuneralala Ge Atuwawa on Kuttu reports there has been yet another brutal attack against Sinhalese Buddhists by Muslim fundamentalists in Balapitiya, this time too in a well planned manner. (It seems Muslims in Sri Lanka are determined to celebrate every festival in the islamic calendar with the brutal killings or attacking "infidels or kafirs" in the country. They celebrated Ramazan by hacking to death of an unarmed police officer in Puttalm and attacking armed forces and police around the country. This time they proudly celebrate Haj with the brutally hacking of 03 Sinhalese youths in Balapitiya. (We are yet to know how many Sinhalese will have to pay the prize in their lives for being kafirs during this time)

The three youths who were on their way home after attending a funeral have been brutally hacked by Muslim fundamentalists and the unfortunate victims are in the ICU in Karapitiya hospital in a critical condition. (By the time incident was reported one of the victims leg has been amputated). This time around the fundamentalists have added a bit colour to their trophy by severing one of the victims genitals. The parents of one of the victims are dumb and deaf and the victim is the only hopeful for their family with other kids being too small. There is a stark similarity between the brutality unleashed by the LTTE terrorists and the Muslim fundamentalists. The LTTE terrorists hacked to death poor Sinhalese in villages, dashing newly born babies against three trunks and forcefully dragging out fetuses from mother's wombs.

The attack has been carried out such a minute fashion that the attackers have come from Ampara, a hot bed of Muslim fundamentalism in Sri Lanka. Frequency with which the attacks being carried out has been on the increase while the nature of the crimes have become more and more heinous such as turning Buddhist temples and archeology sites into mosques, the latest being the tomb of the one of the greatest and revered kings of Sinhalese turning into mosque.

This incident is portrayed by the media as a clash that took place between "two groups of people" in the area giving the impression that the incident had happened between two groups of Sinhalese community.

It seems the Jihad which is in operation in several forms in Sri Lanka is in now in full swing.

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated”-Mahatma Gandhi: time has come to bring back our country’s greatness in treating animals

How true! Treatment to animals in a civilization whose foundation had been laid by Buddhist philosophy was among many great things Sri Lanka was known for from time immemorial.  The colonial foothold in Sri Lanka was certainly beginning to make a negative impact in our civilization which treated animals as equally as humans. The slaughter of animals with unprecedented numbers and cruel methods used by non-Buddhists especially by colonists and the populations converted to their religions was widespread in the areas under colonial rule. Though the Buddhists continued to maintain their compassionate attitude towards animals by largely being as a relatively less flesh consuming community, the large scale slaughter happening around them and the widespread flesh eating practice made some impact among them.

The recent incident involving minister Mervyn Silva who rescued a large number of animals about to be slaughtered in Munneswaram and Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana threatening the minister to face grave consequences if he goes ahead of preventing large number of animals to be slaughtered on the eve of the Haj festival brings to the fore us to think twice about our stand on this matter especially as a nation whose foundations are largely laid by the Buddhist philosophy.

While I do not generally accept most of the rash and foolish actions by the minister Mervyn Silva nor him as a person I appreciate the initiative made by the minister though it was also not done proper manner. However, the attention created by the minister's action should be a stepping stone for all of us to join hands to start a campaign aimed at eradication of cruel and inhuman treatments towards animals.

We should mainly pay our attention to the bloodcurdling, horrific and cruel manner in which the cattle are slaughtered in Sri Lanka. We should also certainly pay our attention the sheer number of cattle being slaughtered in a single day in Sri Lanka with terrifying treatment meted out. No sensible person with even an iota of kindness in the heart would ever dare to eat beef if he/she witnesses the cruel and horrific manner in which the poor animals are subjected to suffer while slaughtering.

At time Sri Lanka is in an important juncture with the dawning of peace after defeating terrorism and while celebrating 2600 years of Sambudhdha Jayanthi setting in motion to embark on a righteous society, it is very much pertinent to focus our search light how animals are treated especially when slaughtering, the number of animals being butchered and how we can eradicate this practices shameful to entire humanity. Then only Sri Lanka can boast again as a great nation which we were known for centuries.

A Key lesson learnt by Muslim fundamentalists in Sri Lanka from Tamil racism: Claim a fabricated history of 2000 years of Muslims in Sri Lanka and go a step ahead in turning temples and Sinhalese Buddhist archeological sites into mosques.

Building a mosque on the tomb of the Sinhalese king Dutu Gamunu raised a many an eye brows of fair thinking people here and abroad irrespective of the ethnicity they belong to. The laughable and bizarre claim that a Mullah has been buried on the site 1000 years ago not only make one surprised but stunned.

It is well known that the Tamil racism created a bogus history and to facilitate it went on destroying the Temples and Sinhalese Buddhist archeological sites strewn length and breadth of the North and East of Sri Lanka. But there has been some sort of restraint on the part of Tamil racists in certain instances where some Buddhist temples and its archeological artifacts and inscriptions have been spared. You can witness this if you visit some of the Buddhist Temples in the North and East.

But in the case of Muslim fundamentalism the case has been quite opposite. It can be observed that Muslim fundamentalists have been ruthless and very fast in this instance: Ruthless in completely destroying the temples and archeological sites and fast in building mosques on the sites.  As our fellow blogger on Kottu Sinhala Buddhist reports the Kuragala temple is the latest case in point. Kuragala is a vast complex of Buddhist monasteries which was home to thousands of Arhats. The caves with drip ledges and Brahmi letters were the meditating abodes for the Buddhists monks. The fundamentalists have gone to the extent of destroying the inscriptions written in Brahami letters with the use of acids and have given an Arabic name (Dufter Jayalani) to the place.  Mosques built and several constructions made with inscriptions covered with cement plasters. In this instance too a mullah is claimed to have stayed in the place some 'thousands years' ago. The funniest part of the whole story has been a video and a web site has been produced in support of the bogus, fabricated and defaced history of the site. As it is well known Muslim fundamentalists in Sri Lanka never care about the law of the land of the country and the court order given to remove the mosques and other constructions has been ignored.

Now a campaign is underway to claim that the removal of the mosque built on King Dutu Gamunu's tomb was done by unruly Sinhalese Buddhist racist mobs including Buddhist monks against peace loving Muslims. (This is the same method used by Tamil racists to cover their racist acts against Sinhalese Buddhists). Dolor crazy NGO hordes are fabricating the stories and up in  arms claiming that the right to have a place of worship to peace loving Muslims is denied. The court order given to remove the construction is conveniently forgotten.

As I pointed out in my previous posts, Muslim fundamentalists have found the time is very much conducive to make their move at a time Sri Lanka is under pressure by 'International' witch hunt over alleged war crimes. Grease Yaka incidents which were used to attack the security forces personnel was a case in point. Now building of mosques in Sinhalese Buddhist archeological sites go on with impunity.

PS: It was the destruction of artifacts and land grabbing of Deegawapi temple that came to public limelight for the first time in Sri Lanka though there have been numerous such instances reported and continue to occur from the Eastern part of the country.

Have Muslim Fundamentalists in Sri Lanka found the right time to make their move?

Muslim fundamentalism in Sri Lanka is not a new phenomenon. It days back to 1980's with Muslim politicians including powerful ministers of the government in power of the day being accused of supporting it.  This was quite prevalent in the eastern districts of the country with Wahhabism being the most prominent faction.  However, with the total elimination of the LTTE there had been less talk about this.

But some of the recent developments that happened in the country prove that the Muslim fundamentalism remained only in dormant stage and there are clear signs of its ugly head re- emerging. As I discussed in my previous post, the attack by Muslims to the some police stations in the East and the navy camp in Kinnya, hacking to death of an innocent police sergeant, Navarthna Bandara in broad daylight in Putttalm are clear indications of what its real intention is.  The unprecedented violent manner in which the attacks were carried out against the security establishment resulting in its personnel being killed, unusually higher number of such high handed actions reported in Muslim dominated areas, the sheer number involved in the attacks and the subsequent provocative protests made with some nasty actions strongly suggest that the Muslim fundamentalism is behind the whole episode.

As one of our fellow bloggers in Kottu, Sinhala Buddhist rightly points out there is a strong evidence to suggest that their intention is to create "No-go Zones" through fear psychosis in the Muslim dominated areas.  Non-Muslims and the security personals are barred from entering the areas on account of the fear psychosis created and subsequently use the areas as launching pads against the rest of the country. These No-go-zones or exclusive Muslim areas are turned into prime breeding grounds (Recruitment Bases) for recruiting the fundamentalist to carry out Jihad. This has been tested in some European countries including in the UK with London, Paris and Amsterdam being the prime targets. And the areas selected were extremely vital economically. As far as Sri Lanka is concerned these incidents were mostly perpetrated in the coastal areas where the arms smuggling and other illegal activities can be carried out.

Giving his views to the Sunday's Lankadeepa on 21st August a well respected serving army officer who was among the higher government officials and the politicians in Kinniya Divisional Secretariat Office over the attack carried out against the Kinniys navy camp mentions that the Muslim extremism is behind the incident. The army officer says that he clearly heard the crowd shouting the word 'Taliban' while protesting. He goes on to say that he felt disgusted by the nasty manner in which the Mullas behaved and treated high personalities belonging to their own community who came to the scene to resolve the problem. He says that he was able to get the first hand experience how the Muslim fundamentalists generally behave.

The current nasty witch hunt being in operation against Sri Lanka in the international arena over alleged 'War Crimes' makes it extremely difficult to Sri Lankan government and its security establishment to effectively act against unruly elements disestablishing the country especially when those elements are minorities. Literally Sri Lankan governments hands are tied and made it disabled to act against those who are hell bent to disestablish the country. So this is the perfect moment that the Muslim Fundamentalists have been waiting for ages.

PS: The police sergeant Navrathna Bandara was hacked to death in cold blood while he was begging for his life. His wife is a 09 months old pregnant. He begged his attackers to give him a chance considering his unborn child. But the Muslim fundamentals had no mercy in their hearts as sergeant Navarathna Bandara was a Sinhalese.

A glaring feature of the whole Grease Yaka episode: an alarming degree of violence unleashed against the police and security forces in the East.

One o f the notable features of the Grease Yaka episode has been the spate of violence associated with it resulting in death of a few persons and injuring scores of people of whom the majority being the police and security forces personals.  Considerable amount of damages to the properties was also caused including the vehicles belonging to police and security forces. This may be perhaps the first time in Sri Lanka similar incident caused such an unprecedented scale of violence.

Anyone who followed the whole episode would not fail to notice the fact that there has been an alarming degree of violence directed against the Police and the Security Forces in the Eastern part of the country in the areas exclusively dominated by Muslims. While the police stations in Samanthurai, Kaththankudi, Addalachchenai and Potuvil were attacked in Kinniya it was the navy camp that was at the receiving end. Almost all the cases it was very clear that attackers took the law into their hands. They demanded the alleged Grease Yakas and the attackers to the police stations and armed forces camps who were taken into custody by the police are released. They finally succeeded in getting released all of them. While in other parts of the country in which Grease Yaka incidents were reported there had been a considerable amount of cooperation by the public with the police and the security forces personnel there had been extreme level of animosity against the latter in the East by a particular community.

What does this new phenomenon indicate? Is it a mere coincidence?  Or Is the law applied in the areas dominated by Muslims in the East different from the other parts of the country? Or is it a warning against security forces and the police? Or is it an indication of a turbulent outcome in store? The authorities must immediately act to see what the real reason behind this new phenomenon is. Whatever reasons behind it, the government must take every measure to nip it in the bud. History repeats itself if we do not learn lessons from it!

PS: Meanwhile the Navy had alleged the attackers' real intension was to getting rid of the navy camp from Kinniya

Tamil Nadu Jokers!

Anyone who is not a regular viewer who happens to tune in a local Tamil TV Channel in Sri Lanka would think that the whole Tamil Nadu is a bunch of jokers. Such is the amount of crap shown on local TV channels taken from Tamil Nadu. These craps include films, mega Tele dramas, joke scenes etc, etc. But judging its politicians' behavior one would tend to think that what's shown on TV channels is indeed a true reflection of Tamil Nadu.

Take for instance of its Chief Minister herself (She is also a film star from the Tamil screen). There is hardly a day passes that she does not spit venom against Sri Lankan government supposedly concerned by the suffering of her Tamil 'brethren' in Sri Lanka. But these outbursts have turned out to be just empty rhetoric as there has so far never been any genuine effort made to alleviate the alleged suffering of her 'brethren' here.  Why can't this former actress volunteer to build at least a few houses for the IDPs, If she is so genuine in her feelings for her 'brethren'? Instead, the only means of livelihoods of her 'brethren' is mercilessly denied by allowing Tamil Nadu fishermen to poach in Sri Lankan waters. She may not be unaware of the fact that her beloved 'brethren' here got the opportunity to engage in their only livelihood after gap of thirty years.

Another biggest joke scene in display is the demand for an Indian economic embargo against Sri Lanka. I think the former Tamil Nadu actress and her cohorts don't have a brain even in the size of peanuts to understand that the trade ties between India and Sri Lanka is hugely in favor of India. What Sri Lanka is getting is mere peanuts. The sheer scale of automobile export to Sri Lanka from India itself speaks it volumes. Every road in Sri Lanka is full of Indian vehicles, you name it!-Three Wheelers, Buses, Lories, trucks, mortar bikes, scooters, tractors, cars etc, etc. The newest addition has been the Nano- cars. Sri Lanka has literally become India's scrap yard. And it is the state of Tamil Nadu that claims to have been the biggest automobile manufacturer among other states of India. So don't these jokers have brains to understand who would affect in the event of cutting the trades ties between the two countries?

The biggest joker of all is the poor Eelam looser Vaiko! (For some strange reason he is apparently not from Tamil cinema. Is he also Tamil Film actor? I don't know). Just the other day this fool was left with egg on his face suggesting the idea of economic embargoes to Man Mohan Singh. Singh is not a fool like Viko.  One of the most ridicules things I heard coming out from a  mouth of an Indian lately is that this nit wit Viko's suggestion to Sing that Sri Lanka Navy was getting support from China to attack Tamil Nadu fishermen. Thanks to these jokers' horribly lost Eelam project Sri Lankan armed forces became one of the most formidable counter terrorism forces in the world. Sri Lanka navy is unique in this sense. So suggesting SL Navy getting support from China to attack an unarmed bunch of civilians in boats is well enough to understand what a nit wit this Eelam looser is!

The latest news is that the Buddhist pilgrims from Sri Lanka who were in Chennai have been harassed by the Eelam looser's goons.  The pilgrims have been asked to remove their cloths which had Sinhala letters and the cloths have been burnt. What a heroic deed indeed by the brave soldiers of the Sun God!

The need of erasing the fabricated Tamil history from the minds of Tamil people in Sri Lanka as Europe did to rid the Nazi ideology from its societies at the end of WW-11

Dr. Susantha Gunathilake in an insightful article published in yesterday's Daily Mirror highlights the need of stringent measures that should to be taken to erase the fictional Tamil History and 'Homeland theory' implanted in minds of Tamil people in Sri Lanka, which has been created in order to meet the political aspirations of Vellala Tamil elite from Jaffna.  Brainwashed and poisoned for years by this fabricated history Tamils in Sri Lanka are reluctant to shed the false concept of mono ethnic exclusively Tamil enclave in Sri Lanka. This idea is well reflected by the results of the recently concluded Local Government Election which gave the LTTE's proxy, TNA a victory in the majority of the local government bodies despite the fact that the unprecedented development efforts taken by the government in the "Northern Province giving its the highest rate of growth in the country with infrastructure reconstruction on a massive scale". The fiercely conceived fabricated history in the minds of the people makes it's easy to Tamil racist elements here and abroad to exploit them to furtherance their political aspirations. Dr. Gunathilke eloquently points out how the authorities took stupendous measures to erase the fascist Nazi ideology implanted in the minds of the people at the conclusion of the World War -11 in Europe though it took some time to completely erase it. The authorities went on to even banning 30,000 books on Nazi Ideology and "those who collaborated ideologically were removed from positions of influence".

Challenged and made helpless by the hard evidences in the form of archeological remains found length and breath of north east which are corroborated by the chronicles of their existences, the Eelamist have gone to the extent of resorting to claim an existence of a Tamil Buddhist culture in Sri Lanka. Case in point is Kadurugoda Viharaya Tamilnized as Kanthrodai

I quote some of the paragraphs of his very enlightening article

"The parallels between the LTTE and Nazi ideology are also revealing. Examples: a false exclusive mono-ethnic traditional homelands, ethnic cleansing, indoctrination of the gullible by raw racist propaganda, undisputed rule by one man, brainwashing of the young through a fictional history.

The Nazis were in power for its propaganda only for a period of 12 years from 1933 to 1945 compared with the nearly 35 years of propaganda the separatist forces carried out among Tamils in Sri Lanka. This propaganda extended to a massive invention of history. For example, the Royal Asiatic Society (RAS) findings of Sinhala Buddhist remains at Kandarodai in Jaffna in 1917 by Paul Pieris and Rasanayagam, the author of Ancient Jaffna were changed by Jaffna academics during the LTTE control to be "Tamil Buddhist" unconnected with the rest of Sri Lanka. A total new fictional history indirectly justifying separatism was created and fed to the Northern population for several decades."

"The lessons learnt from Germany are very clear. Decades long, brainwashing does not vanish after a military victory. The problem is not with the Diaspora, it is here among the brainwashed. Concerted efforts should be made to clear the virus. In our case, it is to remove teaching a false invented history with fictional traditional homelands. All those who subscribe to this should be removed from government and university employment. Indian Tamil separatism was stopped after the 1962 China war through its 16th Amendment banning separatism."

I also take this as an opportunity to quote a few Tamilinized names of original Sinhala place names in north and east as I did in one of my previous articles as well. They were taken from  'Traditional Sinhala Place names of cities in Sri Lanka', a comprehensive work on the Sinhalese place names in the North and East, which have later been Tamilinized.

ATTANAVAEVA, අත්තනවැව- Achchankulam

Mannarama  [Mannar district)

Meaning: There is no "achchan" listed in the usual Tamil dictionaries and Lexicons; however, close forms like 'accan' may be listed. 'Achchan' means "brother", (also father etc.) in Malayalam, and may be the source of the sinhala slang word "machang". However, there is no contextually useful meaning in it for a place-name. On the other hand, the sinhala word "Attana" refers to a plant species (Latin Dathura Alba, or Datura metal, Tamil "Umaththai"). Its occurrence in Sinhala place names is well established. The plant and seeds contain the alkaloids Hyoscine, hyoscyamine, norhyoscyanine and atropine. The plant as a whole is a narcotic, and the Tamil name "Ummaththai" is probably derived from the Sanskrit/Pali word which means (causing) "madness", or "ummmada" in Sinhala. It is poisonous. Its use in Ayurveda is well established.

ATHURUELIYA, අතුරුඑලිය- Achchelu

Jaffana (Yapanaya)

This is a common sinhala place name. "Athuru" mean "nearby" in the present context (also, it may in other contexts mean "supplementary", or "inter-mediating"). "Eliya" implies an "open place", a "cleared place", or a region held as a "common". In other contexts it may mean "a source of light". hist: Ancient Buddhist shrine and Dagoba, referred to by de Queyroz

ATHURUVAELLA- අතුරුවැල්ල -Achchuveli, Achuvely

Jaffna-(Yapanaya)

The etymology of this place-name is similar to that given in preceding discussions. "Vaella" means "shore", or a "sandy place". This name is often found in southern maritime areas in SL. This is a location of ancient Buddhist ruins; de Queyroz, discussing the fall of Jaffna says "It remained under the Portugezen sway for upwards of 40 years, wrested from the Emperor by Philippo d'Olivero when he defeated the Cingalezen forces near Achiavelli (Achuvely) by the great pagoda".

HADUGALA -හඩුගල- Adaichakal

 Madakalapuwa[Batticaloa]

 'Adai, Adicha, or related stubs do not occur in the Tamil Lexicons. There is a small Tank here;

HADUGALMOTTE- හඩුගල්- මොටේ- Adaikkalamoddai
Adaikkalmottai, Adukkalmoddai

Mannarama district [Mannar]

'Motte ← Modde ← Made' signifies a muddy, swampy place. The Latin word for 'marsh' is 'madeo', while Skrt. 'manda' means slime. In Tamil, Ala, Alaru Alakkar, Ceru etc., are used for mud.

AADAMPANA or AETTAMPANA or RAAMAPAENNA- ආදම්පන,   ඇටිටංපන
රාම පැන්න  රාමසේතු
-Adampan -Adampanai, அடம்பன்

 Mannarama District

Meaning. Tamil "Pan" by itself seems to have no immediate meaning, however, "pampan", and the sinhala "paalama" (පාලම) both means 'bridge'. This name may have been inspired by "Adam's bridge" near by, across the Falk straits. However, the name Adampan is found in several places which are far away from "Adam's bridge", e.g., in the North Vanni, and in the Trincomalee district (near Gomarankadavala), and hence it cannot be positively connected with Adam's bridge. Note that the old names "Rama bridge" (irāma;-cētu; இராமசேது in Tamil consistent with the Tolkkappiam rules), or Ramasethu, was replaced by "Adam's bridge" in 1804 by the British surveyor James Rennel. He was the first Surveyor General of British India. 'Siripada', (or 'Adams peak'), known also as 'Vishnupada' in the Mahabharata was also renamed "Adam's peak" by Rennel. "Setu" means bridge in Sanskrit and other source languages.

It has sometimes been claimed in some Internet blogs, without much foundation, that the Tamil word "Adampu" has been used for "bin-thambura", a creeper which grows by the sea shore, and found almost every where in the costal regions of SL. The well-known Tamil name for "bin thambura" is "attukkal". The placename "adampana" is not found in any early records, but came in during the British era. All these suggest that the place-name is unlikely to have originated from the construed name "Adampu". We believe that the old name is "aettampana". "Aettanpana', or "Aththampana" where "attana" or "Aththana" (Bot: Datura alaba)is well known. The word "aththana" occurs in plant names like Rukattana (bot:Alstonia scholaris), "Kaulaththana etc., and are well recognized plant species.

AETTAMPANA-ඇටිටංපන-Adampan

 Giranikke-[Killinochchi]

See previous discussion under "adampana" in mannar

AETTAMPANTALA-AADAMPANTHALAVA, AADAMPANTHALAVA, RAAMANTALAVA- ඇටිටංපන්තල ආදම්පන්තලාව රාමන්තලාව-Adampantalavu

Mannarama

Read the discussion under "Adampan"

ATHTHANAMADE- අත්තනමඩ- Adampanmodddai

Giranikke-[Killinochchi]

Read the discussion under "Adampan", regarding the plant "aththana", and the etymology of the word "mada", "moddei" and the english "mud" under the entry "Athimottai".

ADDARAHENA –ATTAALAHENA- අද්දරහේනAddalaichenai, Addalachenai, ApdalacChena

Ampare

Meaning: In Tamil "Addalai" has no immediate contextual meaning; it may have originated from the sinhala "addara" = "near by" , or "attaala" = "scaffolding". The sinhala, word ``attaala'' is related to the Sanskrit and Pali words for "scaffolding". It may mean a raised hut usually made of wooden beams, bamboo etc. But the common tamil usage for the latter is `Paran', and "addalai" may be a form which is not current. However, the word order is incorrect as "attaala" or "addala" is not used as an adjective. Thus "Addarahena", a common place name, is the most judicious choice for the origin of this name, while "attaalahena" is not prevalent and etymologically unlikely.
The remaining part of the name contains 'Chennai'. It is from the Sinhala "hena", i.e., 'slash-burn' cultivation plots. In Tamil 'Chenai' may mean 'army' and does not fit into the context here

AETAAPAENNAVEVA- ඇතා පැන්නවැව- Adappankulum

Mannarama-Mannar

This literarily means, in Sinhala,"The Tank into which the elephant jumped". "Aetapan"  may also be a type of grass or reed (but not identified)

More names will follow with coming posts.

Vandalism of Sinhalese Buddhist monuments in the East by fundamentalists intensified!

Destruction of Buddhist temples and monuments in the North and East is not a new phenomenon. This has been going for quite a sometime  with the beginning of declination of the Sinhalese Buddhist civilization from the regions with Sinhalese population shifting to other parts of the country mainly caused by the South Indian invasions. With the extremism and fundamentalism taking root among the Tamils and Muslims the scale of destruction took a new turn with severity of destruction taking renewed vigor.  The severity of vandalism in the northern districts have been such that hundreds of such places that exited in the region until early decades of the 20th century have vanished from the face of earth for ever except a few places .

However, sizable number of such places still exists in the eastern districts though they are also being subjected to a severe type of destruction at every passing day. Due to efforts made by some vigilant residents in the areas led by some Buddhists monks we were able to get a glimpse of scale of vandalism being perpetrated in the places such as Deegavapi, Muhudu Maha Viharaya and some other places in the Digamadulla District.  As it is well known the biggest causes for such destructions among others have been the ever growing Muslim fundamentalism and the Muslim population explosion in the districts.  The land grabbing of Buddhist temples, destruction of monuments and making use of pieces of them for construction purposes have been among the most common mode of destruction. Threatening, intimidations, doing physical harms to the resident Buddhist monks who reside in the places with great difficulties have also been most common mode of getting rid of Sinhalese Buddhist heritage from North and East.

Yet another similar attempt is reported by our fellow blogger on Kottu- Sinhala Buddhist. This time around a non- Buddhist with fundamentalist ideas Assistant Forest Officer has joined the ever growing cliché of enemies of Sinhalese Buddhism hell bent to destroy the legacy of Buddhism in the region. As mentioned earlier this instance too the particular perpetrator has resorted to threaten and intimidate the resident Buddhist Monk in the temple Venerable Gonawala Sudassilankara who lives there with great difficulties even without proper meals. He has done it several times by destroying Buddhist decorations and the name boards put up by the Department of Archeology. In order to conceal his fundamentalist intentions he makes use of his position at the department of forest to deny the Buddhists Henanegala Raja Maha Viharaya, a vast complex of mediation monastery with many Buddhist monuments and ruins strewn around.

Preserving the Sinhalese Buddhist heritage from the ever growing fundamentalism has been a stupendous challenge in monumental propositions. Those who dare to do that face unimaginable proportion of challenges including threats to their very lives. Case in point is the Deegavapi . (Contrary to what we are told, the most of the lands belonging to Deegavapi have been grabbed by Muslims with the ruins completely destroyed.). It would, therefore, be a great injustice if we don't mention some of other personalities too who have taken a great deal of their efforts to preserve the Buddhist heritage in the region. The resident chief monk of Budhdhangala Raja Maha Viharaya some time ago was ex- Brigadier Ananda Weerasekara who was well known in JVP insurgency times in late 80s as the Director General of Rehabilitation of insurgents. He did a yeomen service and was held in high esteem by the JVPs and general public alike. During he was serving in Ampara area he has done a great deal of work to preserve ruined Buddhist temples and monasteries, the most prominent examples being Samangala and Rassagala, the former being a meditating cave complex cum Sangha monastery and the latter being a monasterial complex with number of temples covering more than 100 acres.

He is also the brother of Vice-Admiral Sarath Weerasekara, the ex- Director General of  Civil Defense Force during Eelam War IV time. Vice -Admiral Sarath Weerasekara made those rustic village lads and lasses to a force to be reckoned with uplifting the force's standard and their moral with better training, facilities and recognition. He is now an elected MP for Ampara district. This has been a long-felt need for poor Sinhalese in the district. His service in the capacity of an elected MP is much needed in this post-war period for poverty stricken and marginalized Sinhalese in the district who are in the danger of getting dislodged from their villages and their places of worship due to huge population expansion of Muslims. This ever increasing danger has long been ignored by our leaders due to political advantages.

Villages under the Local Government Bodies won by TNA in the North were originally inhabited by Sinhalese!

After a gap of 30 years people in the north who lived at gun point was able to taste the fruit of democracy with the successful conclusion of Local Government Election held last Saturday. When the names of the Pradeshiya Sabhas started to appear in the media, I thought it was an opt moment to enlighten the readers about the true history of those villages.

Due to the sustained distortion of the factual history of Sri Lanka and the creation of a fabricated history which was fed to Tamils by the Jaffna Velala elite to meet their political aspirations the inhabitants of those villages will perhaps be horrified to know that the very same villages that they live in today had originally been inhabited by their Sinhalese brethren a little before the colonization of Portuguese, Dutch and English started. The distorted history have blinded them to the extent  that they will be reluctant to accept the fact that their ancestors largely comprise of those who were brought to the island's north and east by the colonists to grow tobacco.  Due to being continuously poisoned by a false history the TNA representatives elected to the local government bodies will never imagine even in their wildest dreams that the same villages that they were elected to look after used to be the flourishing villages in which the Sinhalese were the original inhabitants.

(Sinhalese fled the areas due to invasions from the South India and spread of epidemics such as Malaria.)

The lexicological evidences such as the original names of the villages would throw more light to learn about the history of the places of which existence is being corroborated by the chronicles such as Mahavamsa, Deepawamsa and Chulawamsa. Unfortunately the great bulk of the archeological evidences such as the ruins of the Buddhist temples, again corroborated by the chronicles, have long disappeared from the face of the earth due to purposeful vandalism by the Eelamists hell bent to distort the history.

Let's take a look at the names of the local bodies that represent respective villages of which original Sinhalese names have been Tamilinized.

Following descriptions are quoted from 'Traditional Sinhala Place names of cities in Sri Lanka', a comprehensive work on the Sinhalese place names in the North and East which have later been Tamilinized.

 Jaffana District

Chavakachcheri Pradeshiya Sabha

Chavakachcheri, Chaavakachcheari சாவகச்சேரி (Yapanaya [Jaffna])
JAAVAKACHERAYA, Chavakachcheriya - ජාවකච්චේරිය
Sinhala meaning: Area where Javanese people lived, "Java town"

Delft Pradeshiya Sabha

Delft (Yapanaya [Jaffna])
NEDUNDUVA - මැදුන්දූව
නැදුන්දූව
Hist. Baldaeus,1658, Nindundiva, Dutch VOC records Nedointivo
The name 'Delft' was given by the Dutch Governor (of the VOC 1678-1681), Rijckloff van Goens. The sinhalese names 'Diveldoova', and 'Maedundoova' have been applied to this island by fishermen. It is conjectured that the word `Maedun', from the Sinhala "maedha", මැද, which has the same Sanskrit/Pali roots as the English word "middle", indicated that the island (doova) is located more or less at a middle distance from the island of Rameshwaram and the Jaffna peninsula.
The Tamil name may have also come from the same roots, and in fact, the stem நடு Natu in Tamil is used in Tamil words like Naṭuttiṭṭam to indicate a  "middle location".

There is a Baobab tree here, just like in the Maanthota (Mannar) area. The island, 12km by 8km, is accessed by boat from the Kurikattuvan Jetty. in Uruthota (Kayts), and has some 6000 civilians, mostly fishermen. During Portuguese times, the name "cow island" was used, and the ruins of a Portuguese fort exists. Herds of wild ponies, first introduced during Portuguese times, are still found in the island.
Mr. D. T. Devendra, during a visit to Nedundoova in the 1940s, discovered a mound which on closer examination turned out to be a Dagoba. Other ancient ruins have also been noted. Chola remains of Hindu sites ( a 12-meter long,3 meters wide temple) from the 11th century have also been found in 2010. No recent archaeological work has been done.
During the LTTE war, this was a naval base

Karainagar Pradeshiya Sabha

Karainagar, Kaarainakar, காலரநகர் (Yapanaya [Jaffna])
KARANAGARA- කරානගර
Meaning. In  S.  and T., town by the sea.
Ancient Buddhist site, mentioned in the Nampotha as 'Karadivayina'. It was known even in Tamil as 'Kaaraitheevu'. The name change occurred with the construction of the Punnali causeway in the late 19th Century, and officially in 1922. Dutch records give the name 'Nieuw Amsterdam'. However, its oldest name was 'Kaaradeepa', also previously known as 'Ahideepa', as stated in the Buddhist Akitti Jaathaka, which relates the story of the Buddhist recluse Akitti who came to Kaaradeepa. Akitti lived on a diet of Kaara leaves. Hence the name may have arisen from 'Kaara', a thorny shrub. The Paali name 'Kaara' is used even in south Indian inscriptions. Thus Tamil inscriptions (Udayendiram copper plates) refer to Kaara trees, said to be Webera tetrandra. The 'bodhsathva' Akitti is also known as Agastiya in the Jaataka maala, but Malalasekera warns against confusion with the Vedic Sage Agastiya. Even today there is an ancient buddhist site known as Vearppiddi (Veherapitiya). Megalithic burial sites are found at Chaththiranthai (Chatrangana - i.e., arena for hoisting flags.)
Karainagar had a Nordic boat-building aid program since the 1980s.
The Dutch also built a small fort called Hammanhiel, used today as a
SL Naval Base

Kayts Pradeshiya Sabha

Kayts (Yapanaya [Jaffna])- ඌරුතොට
URATHOTA, URATARA, TANJADOOVA
Also 'Uraturai' and 'Urkavalthurai' were the Tamilized forms. Ancient pre-CE Buddhist site. Mentioned in the Nampotha as Tannidivayina. It was a major Naval base under Parakramabahu I (12th century CE). Military History of Sri Lanka
See also Ports of Ancient Sri Lanka, by J. Amarasekera.
Urathota is mentioned in the 'Nainathivu' inscription (written partly in Tamil), of Parakramabahu.
It is mentioned in the 'Thovila' ritual 'Kohombakankariya'. During the Portuguese period, it was known as Cais [meaning quay], giving rise to the current English name. Baldaeus, 1658, used the name Ourature'.

Nallur Pradeshiya Sabha

Nallur (Giranikke, [kilinochchi])
NALLURUVA, YAHAPURA
- නල්ලූරුව

Nallur (Yapanaya [Jaffna])
NALLURUWA, YAHAPURA
Eastern Edge of Jaffna, on the road to Irupalai. Old "Kandaswami Kovil", re-built by Parakrmabahu's generals in the 15th century as a goodwill gesture, destroyed by the Portuguese and rebuilt in th 18th century Nallur may have been the capital of various local kings of Jaffna. and it has been claimed to be the same as Chunguinayanar (Singai City). However, see Rasanayagam, History of Jaffna. The work 'Kailayamaalai' refers to Nallur as Nallaimoodhoor, where 'Moodhoor' may be Mooduthora→Modara, i.e., Sinhala (portal to the sea), or 'Mootur', i.e, 'old city' in Tamil as well since (p)oor=pura was absorbed in to T. Bhuvanekabahu's(1470-78) viceroy Sapumal Kumara ruled from Nallur. See Giritharan for a recent discussion which is more of a nationalistic treatment going beyond empirical historiography. LTTE 'fast-unto death' human-sacrifice of Tileepan was staged here. n.b. Nallur is "good-village", or "nalla-oor" in Tamil. This is a commonly found Tamil-village name. There is also a "Nalluruwa" in Panadura, originally, "Nalapura". Pandit AM Gunesekera (1890s) had suggested that Nalluruva was originally 'Yahapura'.

Point Pedro Pradeshiya Sabha

Point Pedro, Pt. Pedro (Yapanaya [Jaffna])- ප්රේරුතුඩුව
වක්තුඩුව
PEDURU THUDUVA,
This is a name introduced by Portuguese sea farers. Older names "Kapu Thutduva", "kava thuduva" and "vak-thuduva--> Vaththuduva" also seeme to have existed. "Vartha", "Vak", "kava" etc., mean circular, and may have referred to the shape of the coastline here, when the easterly extension of the shore ends and the shore line curves southwards. In Pali, 'Vartha" becomes Vatta", and in Sinhala it changes to "Vaka". A recognized transposition of phonetic elements may change "Vaka" to "kava". "Varthi" in Sanskrit also stands for "mfn. growing near the water (said of water-plants)", cf. Cologne Digital Sanskrit Dict.; or "Ocean" etc.,. In Tamil, the name Parithithurai has been used. Here again, Parithi may have come from "Vartha", the Sanskrit word for "cirum-circular", or from "ocean", Sea shells etc., accepted into old Tamil.
This is an old sea-farer town. See   Valvettithurai sailors   Westward Ho
G. G. Ponnambalam entered politics by winning this seat in 1934, where he defeated Sri Pathmanathan of the P. Ramanathan family. Prior to GGP, this was the "home seat of K. Balasingham, who was part of the "Jaffna boycott" of the Donoughmore commission proposals. 1931. It also means a place of worship as villages usually involved a temple. In modern usage in SL, it refers to a Christian church or mosque.

Musali Pradeshiya Sabha

Musali, முசலி (Mannarama [Mannar]) MUHALA, MUSALA- මෝහල,   මුසල
The AGA division with the same name was created in 1981. The name is most probably from the sanskrit Musalee→Muhala (crocodile) and thus refers to a place (e.g, swamp, tank) with crocodiles, (kimbula in Sinhala); Chaanaakam in Tamil; Crocodylus Palustris in L. The name could also refer to "face, mouth, bud or flower" as in "Kehel-muha", (flower of the plantain) or in the Skrew-pine ((Pandanus odoratissimus). Note that in Skrt. "Muha" or 'Mukha" may have this meaning and exists in standard Sinhala and literary Tamil. The Muhala (Musali) village is in an area which was called "Muhala pattuva", or "Musalai pattuva", where "pattuva" is a subdivision of a ``Korale''. Note that the sinhala "Patuna" (e.g., as in Yapa Patune, c.f., Jaffna) and the corresponding sanskrit word "pattana" is used in the Mahabharata to denote a town or village, and "Dharmapattana" is a name given to the city of "Sravasti" in Pali. Enter Pattana into Univ. of Cologne dictionary

Sri Lanka should accept the lies spread by the LTTE rump for 13 million Dollars!

Yet another nasty effort by the Western diplomats doing politics in Sri Lanka to do a regime change and destabilize the country back fired. On the eve of Election Day for the local government bodies the US government's decision to halt aids to Sri Lanka was announced. The intention was clear: an attempt to discourage voters to vote for the UPFA. But what happened was entirely opposite. UPFA registered a resounding victory.

The electorate knows that it is this government that can withhold the malicious international campaign currently going on against the democratically elected government. And also it is an indication that they are fairly satisfied with the current development works going on in the country.

The latest news is that the US is going to halt the 13 million US dollars aids to Sri Lanka. In other words Sri Lanka should accept the lies spread by the LTTE rump for 13 million dollars. That's the way the US, the so called Supreme Guardian of the 'Human Rights' and the Citadel of the protector of the 'democracy' tries to spread the democracy around the world.

NGO vultures and Al-Jazeera!

One of the icons of the Peace- NGO Brigade in Sri Lanka Jehan Perera who is financed by the Dollars, Euros and Krones accused the government in an interview given to Al-Jazeera last Saturday that military presence on the polling day discouraged voters from visiting polling booths in the North. What Jehan Perea and his Western masters' sole intention was to ridicule the present government's effort to re-introduce to a population who was at gun point for 30 long years an elected representative governance system.

Giving armed protection to polling booths and its environs by the police and armed forces is not new thing to this country and many other countries in this part of the world. The election related malpractices and violence which started from mid 1970's compelled the successive governments to deploy members of the security forces on election days. However, the deployment of armed forces on elections days was hardly observed recently in the areas outside the North and East except in the areas likely to create trouble. (At present Government refrains from deploying even armed forces on polling days, instead STF-the elite unit of police deployed outside North and East). But in the backdrop of conducting the first ever election close on the heels of defeat of the most ruthless terrorist organization of which rump hell bent to find a way from abroad to destabilize the country, the government can't take chances. Government can't afford to allow those sinister forces to take the upper hand to mar the election.

Al-Jazeera deliberately showed a policeman constable on sentry outside a polling centre carrying a rifle which is normal thing on election days in any parts of the country. Then Al-Jazeera showed a soldier who was on sentry duty inside a guard room on the road side. It is similar to NGO brigades' and their Western masters' hue and cry some time ago over the barbed wire fences around the IDP camps. Though it is not seen in the West it is common thing in Sri Lanka that the plots of lands of households in villages are fenced with barbed wire. The problem is that the local NGO stooges of the West have never stepped out of Colombo to see these things in villages. Their world is limited to the four walls of air-conditioned rooms in Colombo and the lies spread by the Tamilnet. So it is not surprising about NGO vultures' criticism about government's effort to hold election in the North and East and give the people a chance to enjoy and live under a democratic rule. That's the last thing that they want to happen. That's because NGO Vultures need carcasses to feast!

Indian TATA Personal Carries donated to Sri Lanka Army by Americans! How funny eh?

Are Americans becoming poor?  Or didn't they find any other better vehicle in their country? Or is it to show Indians how friendly they are with them?  Or Are they conveying a message to Sri Lanka? Or American foreign policy has acquired a new turn?

It is anyway bizarre move on the part of Americans-buying Indian made military hardware and donating to Sri Lanka: a load of contradictions it seems!

As my friend pointed out there are many bizarre things in the photos. See the logos on the doors: "Partners". What a bizarre partnership it is while arm twisting Sri Lanka on alleged war crimes, Darusman report, C-04 and harboring and giving all the support to the LTTE rump in the USA. In short, how does a 'War Criminal' become a partner?  And also the logo tells us that SL and USA are 'partners' today, tomorrow and yesterday. Is that true? The following quote from the today's Island's editorial speaks volumes about how the US supported Sri Lanka in the past.

"US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said, in New Delhi, that the US would fully cooperate with India to thwart terror attacks against the latter. This pledge is ironic in that about three decades ago the US just looked the other way when Sri Lanka pleaded for help to protect itself against separatist terrorism which India, a Russian ally at that time, promoted to penalise it for having crossed over to the US camp under pro-American President J. R. Jayewardene's government. Sri Lanka has received little or no military assistance from the US to fight terrorism. Former US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Jeffrey Lunstead told US Foreign Relations Committee on Feb. 24, 2009 that the US military relationship with Sri Lanka was almost nil."

I also quote below some comments made by my friend after seeing this bizarre incident. It sums up what Americans are up to and where are they now.

"Interesting! Is the US so bankrupt but yet wants to yield influence by showing they can still provide military hardware? So with shitty pocket money they are buying TATA trucks (that's all Butenis can offered to buy these days I guess)  for Army to 'counter balance' support from China and with this 4 trucks they'll expect 100 trucks worth favors and influence returned for the next century at least!

But gone are the days when US used to give ship loads of 10 ton 18 cylinder MAC trucks for dime a dozen armies of the world! ah! How sad! By the way the logo says 'partners'. Partners don't accuse your partner 'war-criminal' .unless we are different level of a 'partner'. Unlike Israel..!!!"
